Songwriting has always been singer-songwriter Emma G's method of expression and communication - and her upcoming single "Barbed Wire" is no exception. Written at the age of 15, "Barbed Wire" was Emma G's way of understanding and processing her own experiences with sexual assault as a teenager.

Now, in 2023, Emma G is releasing "Barbed Wire" as a personal reminder, and an anthem for people everywhere, when it comes to healing, strength and speaking out about abuse - especially during April, which is sexual assault awareness month. With its raw and emotive lyrics, the single serves as a powerful message of truth, vulnerability and reclaiming a sense of self for survivors of sexual assault.

"'Barbed Wire' is a song that is very personal to me," says Emma G. "Almost uncomfortably so. I wrote it just days after my 15th birthday - and was struggling to come to terms with my own experiences with sexual assault that happened around the same time. It was a dark period of my life, but now - years later - I want to use this song to help others who may be going through something similar... and help them realize that they too can turn their pain into power - their struggle into song.

I want to show them that while anger and brokenness are normal feelings: there is hope. Healing is possible. They are not alone - and they don't have to be caged by their trauma anymore".

Produced by Baltimore-based producer Flightboy Music, "Barbed Wire" - the radio edition is an aggressively catchy pop track that showcases Emma G's powerful vocals and raw talent as a songwriter. The single will be available for streaming and download on all major platforms on April 14, 2023.
